Simon Cathro launches the insolvency and restructuring firm Cathro & Partners

Cathro & Partners, a firm specializing in corporate insolvency and restructuring, has opened its doors to help clients create and preserve their business value and survive financial hardship.

The founder and managing director of the company is Simon Cathro, an industry expert with over 25 years of experience in insolvency and corporate restructuring. He is joined by key team members Damien Beven, Kira Yu and Will Evans, who have access, as needed, to the support of approximately 80 employees through resource alliances.

Cathro said he sees an opportunity in the restructuring industry for a company specializing in providing tailor-made solutions to clients based on getting the right outcome for their unique situations. “We want to be the firm that does the right thing by solving customer problems and helping them make the right decisions for their business, their employees and their stakeholders,” he noted.

“Our goal is to enable our clients to survive financial difficulties and emerge stronger. For businesses where this might not be possible, our clients can trust us to give them expert advice based not only on our vast experience, but also a deep understanding of them and their market to ensure that they get the best possible result.

The Sydney-based company specializes in restructuring, reorganization, insolvency, protection, secure execution services and pre-loan services.

Prior to launching Cathro & Partners, founder Cathro was a partner at Ernst & Young, Deloitte and Worrells where he and his team were involved in recent restructurings including Napoleon Perdis, Custom Bus, Foodora and X Blades.

“As Australia emerges from the economic disruption caused by the global pandemic, many businesses will need insolvency and restructuring services to help them navigate their recovery,” Cathro said. “Cathro & Partners will be the firm that has the skills and focuses on the individual situation of a client to guide them through it and ensure that the right result is obtained.”

Jirsch Sutherland, Mackay Goodwin and McGrathNicol are other local independent players in the Australian restructuring consulting scene. Meanwhile, large consulting firms such as Big Four, Alvarez & Marsal, Ankura (which recently launched in Australia) and FTI Consulting also have leading turnaround practices.
