More than two dozen bills were sent back to joint session for approval
ISLAMABAD – The PTI government convened tomorrow a joint session of Parliament devoted to legislation [Thursday] pass controversial bills, which were blocked by the opposition-dominated Senate.
The more than two dozen pending bills could not be passed by the government within the stipulated 90-day timeframe from the upper house of parliament.
The government part, through the session of the National Assembly, has transmitted all these bills for the next joint session in order to approve them by majority.
The opposition will strongly oppose the approval of these bills, as they strongly opposed their referral to the joint session.
On the government side yesterday [Tuesday] twice defeated by blocking bills proposed by opposition MPs.
Noting this, sources said senior members have appealed to all lawmakers to ensure their presence at joint sessions to facilitate passage of pending bills.
On the other hand, the opposition, after having beaten the benches of the Treasury in the National Assembly, decided to give a hard time to the government in joint session during legislative work.
Political experts viewed the PTI government with the support of coalition partners enjoying a majority to easily defeat the opposition in legislation.
The government, which enjoys a majority in both chambers together, invoking the exception of Article 70 of the Constitution, will adopt these bills during a joint session of Parliament devoted to legislation.
Bills referred to the joint session include: “Emigration Bill (Amendment), 2021”, “Muslim Family Laws Bill (Amendment), 2021 (Amendment to Section 4)” , “National Institute of the College of Arts Bill, 2021”, “Privatization Commission Bill (Amendment), 2021”, “Pakistan Academy of Letters Bill (Amendment), 2021 ”,“ Business Restructuring Bill (Amendment), 2021 ”,“ Financial Institutions (Secure Transactions) Bill (Amendment), 2021 ”,“ SBP Banking Services Corporation Bill (Amendment ), 2021 ‘,’ Agricultural, Commercial and Industrial Loans Act (Amendment) ‘,’ Maritime Safety Agency Bill (Amendment), 2021 ‘,’ Maritime Safety Authority Bill Port Qasim (amendment), 2021 ‘,’ Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (amendment) Bill, 2021 ‘,’ Gwadar Port Authori ty (Amendment) Bill, 2021 ‘et al.
