HFW launches into the British Virgin Islands with local acquisition

HFW has launched in the British Virgin Islands via the addition of the office of offshore litigation firm Lennox Paton.

The firm brought in Lennox Paton’s BVI managing partner and head of litigation, Scott Cruickshank, for the launch, along with two partners.

Cruickshank will run the new office, with no current plans for existing HFW attorneys to move there.

The office will specialize in advising on complex, high-value commercial and corporate litigation, including insolvency and restructuring, fraud and asset tracing.

According to a statement from the firm, the HFW BVI office will work closely with the firm’s other litigators in London, Hong Kong and Shanghai.

HFW Head of Litigation Noel Campbell said: “We have been taking a serious look at BVI for several years – it is a major litigation center and most international cases relate to fraud, insolvency/restructuring and shareholder disputes , which are key areas of strength for our team globally.

“HFW’s relationship with Lennox Paton in the Bahamas dates back over 20 years and we have worked extensively with Scott and his team for over a decade,” Campbell added.

The Lennox team is ranked as one of BVI’s leading dispute resolution practices in both Chambers and Legal 500, with the firm’s second office in the Bahamas continuing to operate independently as Lennox Paton.

HFW has completed multiple international expansions, with 12 international office openings, mergers and associations over the past six years, according to the company, including most recently a desktop launch in Abu Dhabi.

Last week, the firm also announced its current senior partner, who has held the position for 15 years. will resignto be replaced by partner Giles Kavanagh.
