Gender equality is essential for social and economic growth: Jai Ram


Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said on Tuesday that sustainable economic growth is unthinkable without the empowerment of women, and that gender inclusion measures are the engine of social progress and economic growth of any nation.

Addressing the state level function at Jogindernagar in Mandi district on the occasion of International Women’s Day, Thakur said that the state government is committed to the empowerment of women. women and gender equality and has taken several steps in this direction.

A separate gender budget statement containing details of all major programs dedicated to the well-being and empowerment of women has been presented in the budget for the financial year 2022-23. The gender budget statement would be useful in monitoring the programs implemented for women’s empowerment and will also help in reviewing them in consultation with the women beneficiaries of these programs, he added.

He said the state government has decided to provide social security pension to all in the age group of 60 without any income limit.

Furthermore, Grihini Suvidha Yojna was launched in the first budget of the current government to provide free gas connections to needy families and over 3.25 lakh free gas connections have been provided under this scheme.

Daughters of BPL families receive Rs 31,000 as Shagun upon marriage under the Shagun Yojna and under Mukhyamantri Swavalamban Yojna, 35% grant is given to female entrepreneurs.

The CM said the monthly fees for Anganwadi workers, Anganwadi assistants and Asha workers have been significantly increased. Salaries for sewing teachers, midday meal attendants, water carriers (education department), Jal Rakshak, general-purpose workers, para-fitters and gas station attendants were also significantly increased.

He further stated that women make up about 50% of our society and that women play the most important role in creating a strong and vibrant society. Women have always held a special place in our culture and society and during the Covid-19 pandemic, women have played a major role in the fight against the spread of this virus, as thousands of masks have been prepared by Mahila Mandals and Women Self Help Groups.
