Dispute between cafes belongs to Canada, Florida hears court

By Caroline Simson (June 2, 2022, 7:11 p.m. EDT) – A US unit of Israeli coffee chain Aroma Espresso Bar has asked a Florida court to initiate litigation seeking to enforce an $8 million arbitration award to following a dispute over a Canadian expansion deal, claiming he sued in Ontario to have the award overturned due to the arbitrator’s alleged bias.

Aroma Franchise Company Inc. told the court in a brief on Tuesday that Toronto-based Aroma Espresso Bar Canada Inc. had “rushed” to Florida with its motion to enforce the award before allowing annulment proceedings in the Canada to unfold.
